Galway City, Ireland…On the same day that Galway City Council became the 30th Irish Local Authority to call upon the Irish Government to address Parental Alienation, the Department of Justice has announced ‘research into the approaches to parental alienation taken by other jurisdictions including public consultations’ in their 2021 Action Plan for quarter 3 by the Civil Justice – Policy Research and Data Analytics section (point 76) see Department of Justice Action Plan 2021.
This achievement has come about through a unique Alienated Parents led campaign that has been unfunded, non-gender and nonpolitical party without any large organisational backing Parental Alienation is an internationally recognized form of child abuse and coercive control and also breaches Ireland’s obligations under the European Convention of Human Rights and the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child see Parental Alienation Submission to UNCRC Ireland Report Alienated Children First (ACF) welcomes this first governmental recognition that Parental Alienation needs to be legislated against in Ireland.
However, ACF would like this research and consultation to begin urgently as every day that passes means that many more unfortunate Irish children become victims of Parental Alienation. This means that they are not being protected in law from this insidious emotional abuse and are being coercively manipulated to hate or fear a loving parent with lifelong psychiatric effects on their future relationships, mental health and wellbeing.
ACF asks the Department of Justice and the Department of Children, Equality, Disability, Integration and Youth to urgently intercede in this issue and motivate the refinement of what Tusla describe as emotional abuse so that it clearly identifies abuse such as brainwashing children, coercively controlling children and psychologically manipulating children. These are currently absent from their guidelines, policies and procedures.
